While scanning some new film, I discovered this photo in my archives that I had forgotten about. It was taken with my Diana-F toy camera which I love for it’s unpredictability. It’s got a shutter that works sporadically and a plastic lens which is coming loose. I’ll probably just throw some electrical tape on it and keep shooting with it. Unlike most of my other cameras, this one seems to give me a very loose interpretation of reality and that’s why I love it.

I took this photo last August at my brother’s house in Montana. Sam and his wife, Amy, both have incredible green thumbs and I have massive envy of their landscaping as well as all of the pots of flowers that Amy seems to cultivate so easily.

On this photo, I played around with some free actions from Pioneer Woman and some free sample actions from Totally Rad! Actions. More specifically, I used the Fresh & Colorful action from Pioneer Woman Set 1 and then the Troy Action from TRA2 - The Revenge and finally the Super Fun Happy action from Totally Rad Action Mix. To finish it off, I added a frame from OnOne Software PhotoFrame 4.0 called watercolor_15.

Woke up to a thin layer of snow blanketing the yard. The white is a welcome change to the constant brown of winter so I took the opportunity to step outside with my camera while the girls were preoccupied with their toys. Of course, I was only outside for five minutes before they sensed that I wasn’t devoting all of my attention to them. This was one of the photos I shot before I was summoned back inside.

I was messing around with my lens and shallow depth of field when I shot this photo. It was only later when I was looking at the photos on my computer that I noticed that I caught the bee in mid flight. Lucky coincidence...

Seagulls

This photo was taken at Salisbury Beach in Massachusetts while I was back east visiting with my brother and his wife and kids. We were eating our lunch on the beach and the seagulls were trying to scam some food so my brother’s kids started chasing them. These two troublemakers took off right in front of me.

The Nest

I know it’s been quite a while since I last posted to the blog (almost 3 months!). I just feel that I have so little time for this. The girls are not napping regularly anymore which means my days are almost completely usurped by them. And that makes my nights a time of exhaustion. :) I’m not complaining because at this age (two and a half) they can be so entertaining and I love being with them.

I want to keep the blog going but I guess we’ll see if it’s still possible...

It’s so hard to find vibrant color in nature in the middle of winter around here. I am drawn to berries and berry-like objects. Not sure what this plant is (a green thumb, I am not) but I was psyched to find it.

Next weekend, I will be shooting my first maternity photos and I’m so excited for it. I’ve got all kinds of ideas and I’ve been learning some new Photoshop techniques for portraits that I’m going to try out too. Hopefully, I will have some great new photos to add to my portfolio.

Middle of Winter

This photo was taken a month ago on a bitter cold day. It’s actually much warmer now (in the 50’s) and there’s no snow on the ground here but apparently in the mountains they’re getting pummeled with snow. Sigh. How I long to be skiing. I may be able to swing it once or twice now that the girls are going to a daycare part time. We’ll see...
